Gabriel Dumont was born at Red River in 1837. Métis families like his travelled the prairie in long lines of Red River carts.

A Red River cart was made of wood and rawhide, with no iron at all. It could carry about 450 kg, and it could even float across a river!

Let's roll the carts west. Each team gets its own questions.

Why: Métis people are part of Prairie history. Learning this story with care helps us talk about food, travel, and fair treatment without sensational language.
